Brought Out

A group of people came into view, each one carried a satchel. The satchel was like the ones that the strap goes over your head and the satchel sits on your side or your back. The people went about their daily tasks, chores and jobs. Occasionally they would take the satchel off and open it and they would look through the contents. Sometimes they would remove an item and hold it in their hands and examine it with great care, but they always returned everything back into the satchel and placed it over their heads and carried it with them.

As they opened their satchels, one lifted out a memory of pain and of rejection. A brother hurt his sister, she still carried this deep wound, she would take it out and ponder over it, the pain would envelop her, as it did on that day 15 years before.

A mum and dad whose children turned away from God, would remove the memory and hold close the dreams they had for their children to be pastors and the woman whose husband had left her for another, who still could not understand the desolation and loss of a relationship that she had no control over. These things were held in these satchels, memories, regrets and what ifs.

My Family, when you allow yourselves to carry and continue to ponder over the past regrets and pain, you allow them to have a place in your heart today. They have the ability to control your emotions, and the memories live on, as if they have a life of their own.

Beloved, it is time for the satchels to be taken off and left at the foot of the cross.

(NIV) 1 Peter 5:6-8

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

(NIV)  Zephaniah 3: 9

“Then I will purify the lips of the peoples,
that all of them may call on the name of the Lord
and serve him shoulder to shoulder.

(NIV)  Joel 2: 25-26

“I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—
the great locust and the young locust,
the other locusts and the locust swarm—
my great army that I sent among you.
You will have plenty to eat, until you are full,
and you will praise the name of the Lord your God,
who has worked wonders for you;
never again will my people be shamed.
